The main reason is that it’s a large family with lots of names that were hard to keep straight. The inheritance part is a little weird and, not boring, but hard to stay connected to. I fell in love with the first chapter and stayed hooked on the novel until after the entire family gets together for final goodbyes and their inheritance. Actually, The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina has a little bit of everything, including family drama, romance, betrayal, self discovery, mystery, a reincarnated rooster and a few short-but-good sex scenes. The book also has some perfectly placed hidden gem moments, such as great visuals of a dead great-grandmother, dry humor and the understanding that comes from personal growth. There are quite a few twists and turns to keep things interesting as well as plenty of likeable characters. It is divided into four parts: the invitation to say goodbye and for the children and grandchildren to come get their inheritance, the initial years after Orquídea dies, finding out who is following three of the grandchildren as well as details of Orquídea’s life and, finally, coming face to face with the enemy. The novel goes back and forth between Orquídea’s past life in Ecuador and the present. Once their lives are threatened, they need to find out more about their grandmother’s life to know who this person is and how to defend themselves. She also gifts some of her grandchildren a unique flower.Īfter her death, the family goes on with their lives until someone from Orquídea’s past starts following them. Before she dies, she transforms and leaves each one of her family members seeds to plant and care for a form of protection against the one Orquídea could not fight. The story begins with Orquídea inviting her family to her house in Four Rivers, somewhere in Texas or a state nearby, because she’s dying and wants to say goodbye.
